Fall in McCall

McCall, Idaho might be known best for it’s summer and winter season activities but the fall season often provides mountain bikers, dirt bikers and other off-roaders the best conditions for getting out onto the high mountain single track and backcountry roads.  The rains usually start back up in September after a dry summer which knock down the dust and give riders back some great traction!  Most of the trails have also been cut out throughout the forest and average temperatures cool down to ideals for geared up riders!   And on top of that, those fall  colors start coming on strong mid September – a rider might find it hard to keep their eyes on the trail when surrounded by brush and tress displaying intense shades of yellow, orange and red!  The changing colors will continue into mid October when you’ll find different species showing off their colors like the Tamarack trees which start out with a lime color then turn to yellow and orange before dropping their pine needles.

Always be prepared for greatly changing weather conditions if visiting during the fall season.  It can feel like summertime one day and then like winter the next!  Our first frosts start coming late August and we often see our first high mountain snow fall anywhere from late September to early October.  We’ve even had valley snow accumulate by the inches the first week of October but also had consistent warm dry nearly summertime weather for most of October! Be sure to check and watch our local forecasts if planning a trip during the fall season.  Visit our weather page for links to suggested sites: [ Ride McCall Weather Links ]
